Some people think that they should calm their nerves by having a drink, but ultimately it leads to disaster! Slurring of the speech, more mistakes than you can throw a pineapple at its just not a great way of becoming a confident speaker at all!

Drinking alchohol turns you in to a raving idiot on stage – please don’t do it. How about coffee? You could turn out to sound like jibbering idiot as well if you drink too much like speedy gon zalez!

Anyway, have a nice drink of dandelion tea thats my favourite!

How To Get Rapport With Someone – Quick Tip

So, How just do you get rapport with someone?

Well, the answer is what I like to call Mirroring!

Mirror how the other person speaks, whether slow or fast – the tone, what their beliefs are – try and agree with what they say.

Match the type of language they use – for instance do they say…

I see what you mean – SEEING

I think I know what you mean – THINKING

I hear what you are saying – HEARING

I feel I know what you mean – FEELING

Something doesn’t taste right – TASTING!

Match your language to the language of the other person, use the same way of speaking.

Here’s a crazy example of how you can use all of the above when publicly speaking!

I feel like you should think this through and see how you feel about it.

If it doesn’t taste right to you then we’ll have to see what we can do about it!

Well, thats all for now – Remember that 50% of what you say isn’t the content – its how you say it.

How To Speak To A Live Audience Without Loosing Your Nerves

Speaking to a live audience can be quite difficult if you are not used to it. The key is to relax and speak slowly – take your time and don’t worry about having gaps in your speaking if it does happen.

What you need to do before you speak is not to write down every word but instead to write an outline of what you are speaking about.

Here is an example:

Intro – Give an outline about what you are talking about.
Why – tell your audence why they should know what you are going to let them know (whats in it for me?)
What – what it is – the details, the science, facts behind it
How – how it is done, what are the specific action steps
What happens – what happens when you take those steps in the real world
Exit – thank you and either next topic or goodbye

This is based on the 4mat system – you get the idea of how you can achieve an effective presentation.

Here is some more tips:

Practice makes perfect

You can’t be a great speaker overnight but after doing it a few times you will get better and better.

Tone of voice

Vary the tone of your voice to make it sound interesting – focus on extending the length of your vowels and the pitch of your voice.
